Joseph Thomas Mapp, III, known as "J.T." or "Joe", age 68, of Virginia Beach passed away on October 10, 2016 following a brief battle with cancer. Born in Nassawadox and raised in Machipongo, J.T. graduated from Northampton High School in 1966. J.T. was a Master Electrician, a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, and spent his career working in Virginia Beach as a Project Estimator.
J.T. is predeceased by his father, Joseph Thomas Mapp, Jr., his mother, Virginia Gibb Mapp, and his sister, Janet Mapp Kellam. J.T. is survived by his daughter Nicole Mapp Hardee, her husband Michael and their children Addison Grace Hardee and William Henry Hardee, of Mountain Brook, Alabama; his niece Linda Kellam Paschall and husband Dr. Robert Paschall of Exmore, Virginia; his nephew Benjamin Franklin Kellam, III of Williamsburg, Virginia; his nephew John Mapp Kellam and wife Tina of Hiwassee, Virginia; his nephew Joseph Lee Kellam, wife Lourdes of Calgary, Canada; three great nieces Sydney Hope Parks, Maria Isabel Gutierrez-Kellam and Ashley Reese; two great nephews Matthew Joseph Gutierrez-Kellam and Benjamin Ryan Kellam; as well as dear friends Lynne Pine, Jack Flanagan, George "Sonny" Kellam and Will Zinn.
J.T. will be remembered best as a life-long music lover singing vocals and playing the trombone, the keyboards and the bass guitar in many bands over the years such as the Malibus, Spectrum, and the local legend "The Sands of Time."
J.T. spent his final days at the home and under the care of his niece, Linda Kellam Paschall. J.T.'s friends and family, and especially his daughter, Nicole, would like to express their most sincere thanks for the love and care Linda provided to him, and for allowing him to enjoy daily sunsets from their home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia, referred to by J.T. as "God's Country." It is there that J.T. passed away peacefully under a glorious sunset, and it is there that we will celebrate J.T.'s life on Saturday, November 5, 2016, J.T.'s 69th birthday, beginning at 2:30 p.m. at the Paschall home located at 2202 Clearview Road, Exmore, VA 23350. Family and friends will enjoy a casual afternoon of food, fellowship and sharing fond memories of J.T.
