William “Bill” Lawrence Burton, 83, husband of the late Janet Fox Burton passed away peacefully on Friday February 24, 2017 at his home in Eastville. He was a native of Newport News, VA. and was the son of the late William Clarence Burton and Evelyn Louise Burton. He was retired from the U.S. Navy with twenty years of service and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V for his service in Vietnam. Bill was an active member of the American Legion Post 56 in Cheriton and performed many duties there over the years. He was well known for his wood carving ability and enjoyed giving his carvings of birds, fish and butterflies to his many friends never asking for anything in return other than friendship. When his health permitted it he was always willing to help anyone in need of his expertise with engines and carving.

Mr. Burton is survived by two daughters Tiffany Anne Lockhart and Cherie Lea Burton, one sister Carolyn Griffin, two grandchildren Nathen L. Burton and Landon T. Lockhart and numerous nieces and nephews. Other than his parents he was predeceased by a sister Odessa Huskey and a brother Jerry Burton.

A Celebration of Bill's Life gathering will be held on Saturday, April 8th at 1:00 pm. at the American Legion Post 56 in Cheriton.
