Elizabeth Bagley Tankard, 65, beloved eldest daughter of Philip Bernard Tankard and the late Jane Underhill Tankard, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2018. Betsey battled arthritis most of her life but refused to let it define her. Gracious and giving, she always had a smile. She traveled, was active in the Ye Accomacke Garden Club and was an avid gardener, ice skated, played softball, rode horses, was a high school cheerleader and was on the dive team at Virginia Intermont College. Betsey loved books which lead to working for The Book Bin and Accomack Public Library. She was an artist and painter at Turner Porcelains.
Other than her father, Betsey is survived by her sister, Cynthia (Cindy) Tankard Lattimore, brother, Philip Bernard (P.B.) Tankard, Jr., nephews, Josh (Kelly) Lattimore, Adam (Somiah) Lattimore, niece, Polly (Mark Jr.) Bundy and nine great nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by a sister, Sally T. Franks.
A memorial service will be conducted Friday, February 9, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson's United Methodist Church with The Rev. Clarence Bowen officiating. Interment will be private. A time of fellowship in the Johnson's social hall will follow the church service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Johnson's United Methodist Church in care of Marge Kacik, 12337 Trout Lane, Machipongo, VA. 23405 or the Northampton Free Library, P.O. Box 639, Nassawadox, VA. 23413.
